June 2, 7:00pm, Peacham Library Board Meeting — Meetings are open to the public.

June 3, 10am, Peter Burns Science Stories at Peacham Elementary School – Peter_BurnsPeacham Library kicks off the summer reading program Fizz, Boom Read with storyteller Peter Burns. You will experience the magic of storytelling and learn about science in everyday life.  Be prepared to me astounded and perplexed.

June 6, 10am-noon, Coffee Hour –  join us for a cup of coffee or tea, a sweet or two and good conversation. Suitable for all ages!

Looking Ahead

June 9, 5:15pm, Friends of Peacham Library – The Friends organize events and fundraisers in support of the library with funds raised used to support book purchases and programs. Please consider joining the Friends and helping in their efforts.

June 9, 6:30pm, Peacham Knitters – Bring your knitting or other handwork for an evening of creativity and chatting. New knitters are welcome to come for help and encouragement.

June 10, 7:00pm, Freedom and Unity: The Vermont Movie — Part One – A Very New Idea – Peacham Library will screen this six part film on Vermont on the 2nd and 4th Tuesdays throughout the summer.

June 13, 9:00 am, Preschool Story Time stories and crafts for the young and their caregivers.

June 14, 1 – 3pm, Herb Club – Learn how to use herbs for both medicinal and culinary purposes. There will be a herb walk with optional tincture making. Please bring a jar and Apple cider vinegar or alcohol.

June 20, 7:00pm, Ragtime Concert with Deborrah Wyndham — Peacham Library presents Deborrah Wyndham for a delightful evening fundraising concert to be held a Peacham Congregational Church.

Summer Programs (a partial list)

FIZZ_BOOM_READ_logo Primary StackedFizz, Boom, Read! — This year’s summer reading program bulletin board challenges you to think about what you read.  For every book you read, add a marker to the bulletin board in the appropriate column — fiction / non-fiction, adult / child.  Who reads more fiction? More non-fiction? More books?  Let’s see how kids and adults stack up.

The following is a partial list of upcoming summer programs.  Watch for details on other possibilities — French Club, Fiber Fridays, and Maker Days are all possible with the help of volunteers.

For kids (camps require sign up)

  • June 24 – 26, 9:30 – 11:00 am — Mini Mathematical Art Camp — origami, geodesic domes and computer art.
  • July 14, 5:30pm — Mark Breen for Kids — details to follow.
  • July 21 – 25, 9:30 – 11:00 am — Fizz, Boom, Read! Summer Reading Camp — science and more.
  • August 12 – 14, 9:30 – 11:00am — Mini Technology Camp– stay tuned for details.

For Adults

  • Starting June 10, 7:00pm — Freedom and Unity, The Vermont Movie, a six part movie about Vermont to be shown the 2nd and 4th Tuesday of June, July and August.
  • July 14, 7:00pm — Peacham Library Annual Meeting with Mark Breen, guest speaker.
  • July 24, 31 and August 7, 7:00pm — Earth, Wind, Fire and Beyond, Peacham Library’s Summer Series of speakers.

Of Interest

Drop by to check out new books for May.

We have passes to parks, museums and historical sites available for checkout.  The Vermont Park Pass allows up to 8 people (in a single vehicle) to visit a state park as a day user.  The Vermont Historical Sites Pass allows 8 people (in a single vehicle) to visit for free.  The Echo Pass gets up to 4 people a discounted price of $4 to the museum in Burlington.  The Vermont History Museum and Vermont Heritage Galleries pass grants free admission to these locations in Montpelier and Barre.  And for those wanting to go south instead of west, we have a pass for free entrance to the American Precision Museum in Windsor.
