September 1, Labor Day, Library Closed

September 1, 7pm, Board Meeting – Meetings are open to the public.

September 5, 10am-noon, Coffee Hour –  join us for a cup of coffee or tea, a sweet or two and good conversation. Suitable for all ages!

September 6, 9am – noon, Puzzling Day – Calling all jigsaw puzzlers! Help uFirstPuzzles put together Peacham jigsaw puzzles, all 23 of them! Drop in for a few minutes or the whole morning. Puzzles will be out throughout the month and Monday evenings, too, for you to work on.  The first one is out near the desk now.  But be warned, this one is only 300 pieces — we have several with 1000 or more!

September 6, International Observe the Moon Night — Peacham Library, Peacham Elementary School, Northeast Kingdom Astronomy Association and Peacham Fire District #1 will combine to present an evening of astronomy related to the moon.  The evening starts at 6 with the Annual PFD#1 Picnic — bring meat the grill and a dish to share, PFD#1 will provide the charcoal, drinks and dessert.  After supper it will be time for moon activities and opportunities to observe the moon using a variety of scopes and binoculars.

Looking Ahead

September 8, 15, 22 and 29, 6 – 8pm, Puzzling Evenings – Calling all jigsaw puzzlers! Help us put together Peacham jigsaw puzzles, all 23 of them! Drop in for a few minutes or the evening.

September 8, 6:30pm, Peacham Knitters – Bring your knitting or other handwork for an evening of creativity and chatting. New knitters are welcome to come for help and encouragement.

September 9, 11:30am, Library Card Sign-up at Peacham Elementary School — September is National Library Card Sign-up Month, so we’ll be at the elementary school to sign-up all the students so they’ll be able to use the library – for school, after school, and online

September 11, 7pm, The Battle of Plattsburgh – Ron Crisman will present, on the bicentennial of the event, a brief history of the battle and the role of The Eagle in the battle that ended the final invasion of the northern states during the War of 1812. A model of The Eagle and other information on the battle are on display at the library through September.

September 12, 9:00 am, Preschool Story Time stories and crafts for the young and their caregivers.

September 13, 1pm, Herb Club at the Community Garden at the St. Johnsbury Hospital – Join us for an herbal garden tour and Town Forest herb walk with herbalist, Lorraine. Rain Date September 20th.

Of Interest

It is National Library Card Sign-up Month.  Stop by to sign-up for a library card, or update your current record.  Everyone who signs up will receive a raffle ticket making you eligible for our raffle at the end of the month.  The prizes include books, food, and more!

The Summer Reading Chart is almost full — well done!  The final tally for the three months of summer:

Just for fun, we’ll put up another chart soon to see whether our reading is different during the rest of the year!
