July 4, Library Closed (except for the book sale from 10 am – 3 pm)

July 4, 4:00 pm, Reading Douglass — Join WAR AND CONFLICT BOOK ERA:  CIVIL WAR/BACKGROUND: SLAVERY & ABOLITIONISMPeacham Library and Peacham Historical Association as we read, as a community, Frederick Douglass’ fiery historic speech “The Meaning of the Fourth of July for a Negro”.  Copies of the speech will be available for this participatory event at the Civil War Monument.

July 5, 12, 19, 26, 5:30 – 6:30 pm, Introduction to Yoga – Continuation of a six week introduction to basic yoga poses, breathing and meditation with instructor Kalanani Gallas.

July 7, 9:15 am, Story Time – An animal themed story time.  Everyone is welcome to join in the fun.

July 7, 10 am – noon, Coffee Hour – Join us for a cup of coffee or tea, a sweet or two and good conversation. Suitable for all ages!

July 7, 6:00 pm, Family Movie – “Beauty and the Beast” – Enjoy some cocoa, popcorn and a great movie.  PJs optional.  All children must be accompanied by an adult. Rated PG.

 

Looking Ahead

July 10 – 14, 9:30 – 11:00 am, Build a Better World “Camp” AllAgesCoverPhotoActivities include stories, science, art, and games.  Each day has a different theme – buildings, nature, inventions, and of course t-shirts! (Signup required by July 5; children 5 and under must come with a parent)

July 10, 6:30 pm, 207th Annual Meeting with guest speaker Stergios Lazos – Back to the Future:  Lessons learned from the One Room School House – As a prelude to this year’s Summer Series, Stergios Lazos, the Upper School Director at Lyndon Institute, will discuss how teaching methods (project based learning, proficiency, etc) used in the past are just as relevant in today’s schools.

July 14, 10 am – noon, Coffee Hour – Join us for a cup of coffee or tea, a sweet or two and good conversation. Suitable for all ages!

July 18, 1:15 pm, Tuesday Theatre – “La La Land” – Ryan Gosling and lalalandEmma Stone star in this musical that won 6 Academy Awards (but not Best Picture).  Rated PG-13.

July 19, 7:00 pm, Readers’ Delight – The Sellout by Paul Beatty is this month’s book.  Contact the library if you would like to borrow a copy of the book.

July 20, 7:00 pm, Summer Series – 200 Years of Education in Peacham One Room Wonders: The Common Elementary Schools of Peacham This year’s Summer Series will focus on 200 years of education in Peacham, from 1776 to 1976. Each evening will begin with a short historical overview followed by alumnai/ae memories and discussions. All alums of Peacham schools are invited and encouraged to attend!

July 21, 10 am – noon, Coffee Hour – Join us for a cup of coffee or tea, a sweet or two and good conversation. Suitable for all ages!
