This Week at the Library – August 5

August 5, 6:00 pm, Library Board Meeting – Trustee Orientation with VT Department of Libraries Consultantant. Regular Board Meeting to follow. Meetings are open to the public. 

August 6, 1:30 pm, Aging Well in Peacham: “Healthy Cooking” – Join Rosie Gill for some fun in the kitchen and socializing with this monthly group.  

August 7, 10:00 am, Tai Chi for Fall Prevention -Sponsored by Northeast Kingdom Council on Aging and SASH. Continue your practice, building strength and balance in a quiet setting. No instructor in August, but you are welcome to come and practice with friends.

August 8, 1:30 pm, Movie and a Craft: “Treasure Planet” – Enjoy this animated sci-fi adventure movie. Stay and create an out-of-this-world craft! Children under 8 should be accompanied by parent or caregiver.

August 8, 5:30 pm, Story Time at the Farmer’s Market – Join us at the Farmer’s Market this summer as the Library brings stories, and a craft to the Peacham Farmer’s Market.  Everyone is welcome. 

August 8, 7:00 pm, Summer Series: Peacham Landings: FARMINGWho comes to Peacham to farm? What are some unique meanings of farming in current times? Be among the first to see the short film premier: DUCKS on the GOLD SHAW FARM by MORGAN GOLD. Learn about a new generation of farmer, one who uses social media as a tool on his specialty farm.  Conversation to follow. Did you come here to farm? We will explore the long tradition of coming to Peacham to farm and what that may mean today. 

August 9, 10:00 am – noon, Coffee Hour – A chance to drink a cup of coffee or tea, enjoy a sweet or two, and chat with your friends and neighbors.

August 10, 1:00 pm, Woof! What’s the Dog Saying? – Is a yawn always just a yawn? Why does a dog shake off even when it’s not wet? Why is growling good? Is a tail wag always friendly?This multi-media extravaganza of fun helps us all understand what dogs say to us with their bodies. We’ll demystify dog communication, reveal some common dog-human misunderstandings, and learn how we can all live safely and happily together.  After the presentation, the audience gets to engage in exercises to practice reading dog body language. (Shhhh…this is for humans only…dogs must be left at home!)

August 12, 6:00 pm, Peacham Energy Committee – Check in and see what this town committee is working on. This month’s meeting will be upstairs in the library.

August 22, 6:30 pm, Peacham Knitters and Puzzlers with Special Guest – Bring your knitting or other handwork for an evening of creativity and chatting.  Or work on the current jigsaw puzzle while you chat.

August 13, 9:30 – 11:00 am, Sun and Moon Art – Be creative,sing the sun and moon as inspiration! There will be projects for various ages. (Signup required by August 6; all ages with adult as needed)

August 13, 6:30 pm, Peacham Community Housing – This group is a non-profit, charitable organization, supporting and enabling community projects that contribute to Peacham’s quality of living.

August 13, 7:00 pm, Peacham Fire District #1 – The regular monthly meeting is open to the public.

August 15, 7:00 pm, Readers’ Delight – Join us for a discussion of  “Dead Wake: The Last Crossing of the Lusitania” by Erik Larsen.  The book looks at the sinking of Lusitania during World War I and the events surrounding the sinking. Contact the library if you would like to borrow a copy of the book.
