Meg Morrow Clayton: Colorful World
Watercolors downstairs in the Community Room
My journey as an artist began with fiber arts – spinning, dying and weaving. The transformative process of turning raw fiber into colorful, textured cloth has long fascinated me. During the pandemic, I discovered watercolor, which introduced me to a new way of working with color and form. The fluid, expressive nature of watercolor contrasts with the mechanical precision of fiber arts, yet both satisfy my need to capture and interpret the colors, textures, and nuances of the world around me. Inspired by animals, seascapes, and village scenes, I’m drawn to explore color in fresh ways, allowing the fluid alchemy of water and pigment to create a vibrant, colorful world on paper.
Jennifer Barlow – Quilts in the Gilmore Gallery
This collection represents my 25+ years on the path of learning the craft of quilting. All these pieces, whether traditional or modern, started with the spark of an idea that just wouldn’t go away. The Mondrian painting that I couldn’t get out of my head. The wild woven tapestry that would be impossible to piece. Capturing the ocean’s movement in fabric. Then the work of process: the math, the color choice, measuring, cutting, sewing and ironing accurately, struggling through the limitations of my technical abilities. And then a finished piece that will always be a reminder to me of the joy and challenge of creating art.
