June 1, CLOSED while we insulate the attic.

June 2 — Passport to Vermont Libraries Program starts — Pick up a passport and start visiting libraries throughout Vermont. More details can be found at https://www.facebook.com/vermontpassport.

June 2, 10:00am, Summer Reading Kick-off Event, at Peacham Elementary School — Stephen Coronella will present stories, music and more around this summer’s theme – Ready, Set, Read.  Everyone is welcome to join us.

June 4, 10:00 am, Story Time – Stories and activities for the young at heart.

June 6, 7:00 pm, Board Meeting — Meetings are open to the public.

June 13 & 27, 6:30 pm, Peacham Knitters and Puzzlers— Bring your knitting or other handwork for an evening of creativity and chatting. Or work on the current jigsaw puzzle.

June 16, 7:00 pm, Readers’ Delight – This month’s book is Between the World and Me by Ta-Nehisi Coates.  Books are available at the library if you would like to join the discussion.

June 21, 6:30pm, Community Discussion of Being Mortal by Atul Gawande at St. Johnsbury SchoolPlease join us for both small and large group discussions, a sharing of ideas and experiences, and an opportunity to explore the most important issues that each of us will face as we care not only for our loved ones, but ourselves, during the journey towards end-of- life needs.  Facilitated by Dr. Josh Lakin, a colleague of Dr. Gawande, along with Dr. Mary Ready, and Rev. Ann Hockridge.

June 23, 7:00pm, Health Talk with Dr. Josh – Dr. Josh Kantrowitz will facilitate a discussion on child protection services based on the article “Baby Doe: A political history of tragedy” printed in the February 1, 2016 issue of The New Yorker.  Contact the library for help obtaining a copy of the article.

June 27 – July 1, 9:30 – 11:00am – Summer Reading – Ready, Set Read “Camp” – All things that require you to “get ready,” “set” and read / fly / experiment / play / make.  (signup required by June 23; children 5 and under must come with a parent).

Every Friday, 10:00 am – noon, Coffee Hour – A chance to drink a cup of coffee or tea, enjoy a sweet or two and chat with your friends and neighbors.

This week at the library — February 14, 2016

February 16, 1:15 pm, Tuesday Theatre – Hellen Hanff’s book 84 Charing Cross Road is brought to life in this award winning Mel Brooks film staring Anne Bancroft and Anthony Hopkins. Bancroft portrays a bibliophile who writes to a small bookseller in London. Hopkins is the man who replies, starting a twenty year romance via the mail.

February 18, 7:00pm, Readers’ Delight – American Nations by Colin Woodard is this month’s book. The March book will be The Volcano Lover by Susan Sontag. Contact the library if you would like to borrow either book.

February 19, 10am-noon, Coffee Hour – join us for a cup of coffee or tea, a sweet or two and good conversation. Suitable for all ages!.

October 7, 7pm, Board Meeting – meetings are open to the public.

October 10, 9:00 am, Preschool Story Time stories and crafts for the young and their caregivers.

October 10, 10am-noon, Coffee Hour –  join us for a cup of coffee or tea, a sweet or two and good conversation. Suitable for all ages!

October 11, 9am – 11am, Celebrate National Spinning and Weaving Week – there will be weaving and braiding activities and maybe a spinner or two so you can try your hand at these great crafts.

October 12, 4 – 6pm, Artist’s Reception – Meet Cecilia Kane, the artist whose work is currently on display in the gallery.

October 13, 6:30, Puzzling Night And Peacham Knitters — Bring your knitting or other handwork for an evening of creativity and chatting. Or work on a Peacham jigsaw puzzle.  Or do both!

August 3, 4 – 6pm, Artist’s Reception – Faces: On The Edge of A New Frontier by Nicholas Alex will be in the Gilmore Gallery through September.

August 7, 7:00pm, Summer Series – Earth, Wind, Fire, and Beyond – Brad Vietje, Northeast Kingdom Astronomy Foundation Science Advisor, speaking on Cosmic Fires: The Sun and Other Stars.

August 11, 5:15pm, Friends of Peacham Library — The Friends organize events and fundraisers in support of the library with funds raised used to support book purchases and programs.  Please consider joining the Friends and helping in their efforts.

August 11, 6:30pm, Peacham Knitters – Bring your knitting or other handwork for an evening of creativity and chatting. New knitters are welcome to come for help and encouragement.

August 12, 7:00pm, Freedom and Unity: The Vermont Movie — Part Five – Ceres’ Children, takes a deeper look at some of Vermont’s cherished traditions: participatory democracy and the conservation ethic, from the ideas of George Perkins Marsh, one of America’s first environmentalists, to contemporary volunteer groups and activist movements.

August 14, 6:30pm, Herb Club – This month there will be a weed walk and a discussion of herbs that are good for the nervous system.

August 15, 9am, Fiber Friday – Fiber fun for all ages.  This month’s project will be sock animals.

August 15, 10am-noon, Coffee Hour –  join us for a cup of coffee or tea, a sweet or two and good conversation. Suitable for all ages!

August 16, 10am – 5pm, Friends of Peacham Library Ice Cream at PAMFest – Drop by the tennis courts during PAMFest to buy ice cream (and toppings!) from Friends of Peacham Library.  Your purchase supports book purchases and programs at the library.

August 19 – 21, 9:30 – 11:00am, Mini-Technology Camp – Create and program projects using the Arduino microcontroller.  Must be 9 or older (and yes, adults are welcome) with some coding experience.  Sign up is required as space is limited.  Note, this a week later than originally scheduled.

Have you added your summer reading to our Reading Challenge Graph?  One more month — can we fill the graph with books?  It’s been a slow week, but the kids are still ahead — 156 books to 146, with the lead in fiction being nearly 20 books.
