April 3, 7pm,  Acoustic Music Night – bring your instrument to join in the jam session, or just come to listen.  All are welcome to join the fun.

April 5, 10 am – noon, Coffee Hour – join us for a cup of coffee or tea, a sweet or two and good conversation. Suitable for all ages!

April 7, 4 – 6pm, Artist Reception – This is your chance to talk to all the artists from PeachamElementary School as they celebrate the hanging of their art in the Gilmore Gallery.

April 8, 6:30pm, Peacham Knitters – bring your knitting or other handwork for an evening of creativity and chatting. New knitters are welcome to come for help and encouragement.

April 8, 7pm, Board Meeting

April 12, 9am, Preschool Story Time – a change for April, with story time on the 2nd and 4th Fridays, just before Coffee Hour.

April 15, 7:00 pm, Tech Night – Web Design with local web developers Bram Moreinis (fire.peacham.net), and Jerry & Diana Senturia (peacham.net).  Topics will include updating information (content), refreshing appearance (design), adding capacities (function), relating to web techs (developers), talking the talk (vocabulary)

This week at the library — March 24, 2013

March 25, 6:30pm, Peacham Knitters – bring your knitting or other handwork for an evening of creativity and chatting. New Pie and Poetryknitters are welcome to come for help and encouragement.

March 29, 10 am – noon, Coffee Hour – join us for a cup of coffee or tea, a sweet or two and good conversation. Suitable for all ages!

March 30, 7:00pm, Pie and Poetry with Sydney Lea, Vermont Poet Laureate and author of eleven collections of poems, along with several prose books, will speak on poetry as “another way to knowledge.” A feast of pies will follow.

This week at the library — March 11, 2012

March 12, 9am, Libri Grant Presentation — The library received a Books for Children Grant from the Libri Foundation.  This morning we will share the books with the children of Peacham for the first time.  There will be several readers on hand to share a few of the books and then the children may check out a book for the usual three weeks.  The books will become part of our permanent collection for all to checkout. All the Libri Grant books are included in the list of new items added in January and February.

March 12, 7pm, Tech Monday — Join us as we discuss Vermont Online Library, an online collection of searchable periodicals, online biographies, business databases and other information.  There are also sections for students, career transitions and learning a foreign language.  Bring your laptop or use one of our computers.

March 14, 7pm, Game Night — Love to play games?  Join us for games from Yikerz to Agricula.  Bring your favorite or play one of ours.

March 15, 7pm, Readers’ DelightAbraham: A Journey to the Heart of Three Faiths by Bruce Feiler.  The next book will be The Odd Women by George Gissing.  This book is available free as an e-book at ListenUp! Vermont, or we can request one for you via inter library loan.  Just let us know how you’d like to read this book so we can help you get a copy.

March 16, 9am, Preschool Story Time — Join us for stories, a craft, and some running around! 

March 16, 10am – noon, Coffee Hour — Join us for a cup of coffee or tea, a sweet or two and good conversation.  Suitable for all ages!

Looking Ahead

March 20 , 1:15pm, Tuesday Theatre,  We’ll screen a movie based on  Moneyball by Michael Lewis. Brad Pitt stars as Billy Beane, the Oakland A’s general manager who employs a statistician to help buy new plays and improve the baseball team’s record.  Nominated for six Oscars, but won none.  Rated PG-13.

March 23, 10am – noon, Coffee Hour

March 27, 4pm, Literary Youth, This book discussion group for all ages will discuss  Hitty, Her First Hundred Years by Rachel Field and The Miraculous Journey of Edward Tulane by Kate DiCamillo.  Contact the library if you would like to borrow a copy of either book.

This week at the Library — January 8, 2012

January 9, 7pm, Tech Monday — A program to teach you how to make the most of technology.  We’ll start with e-Readers, iPads and mp3 players.  Bring your device and learn how to use it to download free books from ListenUp! Vermont.

January 10, 4pm, Literary Youth — A book discussion for people who want to discuss books for and with children and young adults.  We will be comparing Roald Dahl’s Charlie and the Chocolate Factory and Jody Feldman’s Gollywhopper Games.  Contact the library if you would like to borrow a copy of either book.

January 11, 7pm, Game Night! —This is an evening to share your favorite games with friends and neighbors.  Games the last two months have included Dominion, Clue, Scrabble, Go, Rummikub and Pictureka!

January 13, 10am – noon, Coffee Hour — Join us for a cup of coffee or tea, a sweet or two and good conversation.  Suitable for all ages!

Looking Ahead

January 17, 1:15, Tuesday Theatre will screen a movie about two women (Cameron Diaz and Kate Winslet) who exchange houses for The Holiday.  Free popcorn and cider!

January 19, 7pm, Readers’ Delight — will be discussing Palace Walk by Naguib Mahfouz.  The next book will be Maus by Art Spiegelman.  Contact the library if you would like to borrow a copy of either book.

This week at the library — January 1, 2012

January 2, 7pmBoard Meeting

January 6, 9am — Preschool Story Time— a time for stories, a craft and an occasional song or finger play.  Be sure to stay for the family friendly coffee hour at 10.

January 6, 10 – noon— Coffee Hour— join us for coffee, tea and sweets and a chance to talk with friends and neighbors.

January 7, 7pm — Coffee House — Alan Greenleaf, who writes and sings songs inspired by life on his Peacham farm and the people and countryside around him, will be our headliner.   We’ll open the mike at 8 to all who would like a chance to perform for a short set.  Coffee, tea and cider as well as light refreshments will be available.  There is a suggested donation, with proceeds to benefit the library.

New at the library

You can now borrow ebooks for your Kindle at ListenUp! Vermont.  When you are checking out, click on the “Get for Kindle” link. You will then be directed to Amazon.com to redeem your public library loan. You may be required to login to your Amazon.com account .  You can read borrowed Kindle books on any generation Kindle device or all free Kindle apps, as well as in your web browser with Kindle Cloud Reader.  You will need an active Wi-Fi connection for wireless delivery to a Kindle device. Library books will not be delivered via your Kindle’s 3G connection.

Learn something today with Universal ClassPeacham Library is pleased to announce the availability of over 500 classes, online, for registered patrons to take.  Users register online, participate in the classes online at their own pace, correspond with instructors online and have up to six months to complete an individual class. This program is supported by the Institute of Museum and Library Services, a federal agency, through the Library Services and Technology Act as administered by the Vermont Department of Libraries.  Stop by the library for more information.
