This week at the library — April 23, 2017

April 24, 6:30 pm, Peacham Knitters and Puzzlers— Bring your knitting or other handwork for an evening of creativity and chatting. Or work on the current jigsaw puzzle.

April 28, 10 am – noon — Coffee Hour — Join us for a cup of coffee or tea, a sweet or two and good conversation. Suitable for all ages!mic

April 28, 7:00 pm, Poetry Night – Rhymes, rhythms, limericks, sonnets and more.  This is your chance to share your favorite poetry with others.    It could be a slam, or maybe just a quiet performance, whichever you prefer.  So get your poetry hat on and join us!

April 29, 9:00 am – noon – Flea Market – SupporFlea Market 2017t Friends of Peacham Library at the annual Flea Market held at Peacham Congregational Church.  Quality used items as well as coffee and sweets will be sold.  Donations of quality items accepted until April 28.  Contact Martha Ide.

May 5, 9:15 am, Story TimeTrees, gardens and plants will be the theme at this month’s Kubostory time in honour of sprin.

May 5, 6:00 pm, Family Movie — “Kubo and the two stings” Enjoy some cocoa, popcorn, and a great movie.  PJs optional.  All children must be accompanied by an adult.  Rated PG.

Cleaning Person needed for Peacham Library

Duties to include:

  • Weekly cleaning of the library
    • Vacuuming / mopping
    • Dusting
    • Cleaning bathrooms
  • Cleaning windows
  • Changing light bulbs
  • Other tasks as needed

Job may be either hourly or by contract. If by contract, must have liability insurance.

Submit a resume with references and remuneration requirements to peachamlibrary@gmail.com by August 18, 2014. Job to begin in September.

Peacham Library is seeking a flexible, friendly Assistant Librarian with excellent communication skills, computer proficiency, basic familiarity with library services, and a willingness to learn.  A college degree is desirable.  Submit a letter of interest, resume and names of three references by October 5, 2012 to peachamlibrary@gmail.com.

Peacham Library is looking for one or more people to clean, mow and shovel.  These jobs may be either contracted (will require proof of insurance) or hourly.  Job(s) open until filled.  Submit a proposal for one, two or all three maintenance areas detailing work plan and remuneration requirements to peachamlibrary@gmail.com.

This week at the library — September 30

October 1, 5:30pm – Board Retreat

October 4, 9am – 3pm, Fall Foliage Book and Food Sale, stop by early for the best prices on books, and the sweetest treats!  Proceeds from the sale support the library and the Friends.

October 4, 6:30, Fall Foliage Movie – Peacham becomes Gilead, Maine in this film, starring Ellen Burstyn, about a small town down on its luck.  There will be people on hand to tell you about the location of Spitfire Grill, the jail cell, the realtor’s office, and other insider views of the movie.  The film is rated PG-13.

October 5, 9:00am, Preschool Story Time, stories, crafts and activities for the young and their parents.

October 5, 10am – noon, Coffee Hour – Join us for a cup of coffee or tea, a sweet or two and good conversation.  Suitable for all ages!

October 7, starting time 10am – noon, Biking For Books, the best 10, 28 or 53 miles you’ll ever ride in support of Peacham Library.  Rain last weekend forced the postponement of the ride.  We hope this weekend will be nicer!

Job Opening at the Library

Assistant Librarian Position

Peacham Library seeks a part-time person to provide library services to the Peacham community commencing October 10, 2012.  The successful candidate for this position will staff the front desk, provide reference and information services, computer support, help maintain the collection, and assist with programs.

Peacham Library is looking for a flexible, friendly candidate with excellent communication skills, computer proficiency, basic familiarity with library services, and a willingness to learn for this 10-hour / week position. A college degree is desirable.  Salary will be commensurate with experience and skills.

Peacham Library is a vital part of the community. The Library provides free access to over 9000 books as well as 800 videos, audio books and other library materials, and makes available four computers for Internet access.

This week at the library — March 18, 2012

March 20 , 1:15pm, Tuesday Theatre —  We’ll screen a movie based on  Moneyball by Michael Lewis. Brad Pitt stars as Billy Beane, the Oakland A’s general manager who employs a statistician to help buy new plays and improve the baseball team’s record.  Nominated for six Oscars, but won none.  Rated PG-13.

March 23, 10am – noon, Coffee Hour — Join us for a cup of coffee or tea, a sweet or two and good conversation.  Suitable for all ages!

Looking Ahead

March 27, 4pm, Literary Youth, This book discussion group for all ages will discuss  Hitty, Her First Hundred Years by Rachel Field and The Miraculous Journey of Edward Tulane by Kate DiCamillo.  Contact the library if you would like to borrow a copy of either book.

Looking for good quality used items to include in the Friends of Peacham Library Flea Market Table on April 28.  Bring by the library before April 21.
