This week at the library — May 19, 2013

May 20, 7:00 pm, Tech Night – The library has a wide range of on-line resources for you – all free.  Find out about downloadable audio and e-books, language learning, career help, online classes, reading magazines online, and more.

May 21, 1:15 pm, Tuesday Theatre – Victor Hugo’s book, Les Miserables, comes to life in this 2012 film starring Hugh Jackman, Russell Crowe, and Anne Hathaway.

May 24, 9am, Preschool Story Time – a change for April and May, with story time on the 2nd and 4th Fridays, just before Coffee Hour.  Stories, maybe a song, and always a craft, for children of all ages.

May 24, 10 am – noon, Coffee Hour – join us for a cup of coffee or tea, a sweet or two and good conversation. Suitable for all ages!

June 4, 10:00am,  Summer Reading Program Kickoff Event – We’ll dig into reading with singer / story teller Gary Dulabaum at Peacham Elementary School.  Children of all ages are welcome, but those under five and those not enrolled at the school must be accompanied by an adult.

This week at the library — February 5, 2012

February 6, 7pm — Board Meeting

February 8, 7pm — Game Night — An evening to enjoy new and old games.  Bring a favorite along to share or play one of the games from the library.  Games suitable for both young and old.

February 9, 7pm — Readers’ Delight — The group is meeting a week early to discuss Maus by Art Spiegelman.  Join us in our discussion of a graphic novel and why an author might select a graphical format for a topic rather than text.  The next discussion will be Abraham: A Journey to the Heart of Three Faiths by Bruce Feiler on March 15 at 7pm.  Contact the library if you would like to borrow a copy.

February 10, 10am – noon, Coffee Hour — Join us for a cup of coffee or tea, a sweet or two and good conversation.  Suitable for all ages!

Looking Ahead

February 13, 7pm, Tech Monday — a program to teach you how to make the most of technology.  Interested in learning something new?  How about an online class?  We’ll introduce you to the options available through Universal Class, and talk about learning a foreign language with Power Speak—all free through the library.

This week at the library – October 9, 2011

October 14, 10am – noon — Coffee Hour — Good food, great conversation, and coffee or tea in a family friendly environment

Looking Ahead:

October 18, 1:15pm — Tuesday Theatre — We’ll show a movie about “the right stuff” or what it takes to be an astronaut.  This winner of four Academy Awards stars Dennis Quaid, Sam Shepard and Barbara Hershey. 

October 20, 7:00pm – Readers’ Delight —   Our book will be Their Eyes Were Watching God by Zora Neale Hurston. Our next book will be The Book of Salt by Monique Truong.  Contact the library if you need a copy.

October 20 & 27, 3:15 – 5:00pm — Explore the Moon — An after school program for students in grades 3 -8 on Thursday October 20th and 27th from 3:15 – 5:00pm.  Students will learn about the moon by making edible models, creating craters, modeling the moon’s motion, and viewing the moon’s surface.  Sign up is not required.

October 21, 9 – 10am — Preschool Story Time – Join us for stories, crafts, and occasionally songs.

October 21 , 10am – noon – Coffee Hour

Of Interest

Peacham Library presents “The Moon,” a show of artwork by  Peacham Elementary School students.  The art will be on display in the Gilmore Gallery through October.  An Artist Reception and Trick of Treat will be held Monday, October 31 from 4:30 – 6:30pm.

Checkout our new Moon Kit (binoculars, tripod, books and directions) to view the moon in your backyard.  The kit was received from the Lunar and Planetary Institute through NASA funding. 

Have you tried Universal Class?  We are proud to present you with the opportunity to take over 500 classes online for free!  You will need your patron number to register (stop by the library if you aren’t sure what it is).

New at the library

You can now borrow ebooks for your Kindle at ListenUp! Vermont.  When you are checking out, click on the “Get for Kindle” link. You will then be directed to Amazon.com to redeem your public library loan. You may be required to login to your Amazon.com account .  You can read borrowed Kindle books on any generation Kindle device or all free Kindle apps, as well as in your web browser with Kindle Cloud Reader.  You will need an active Wi-Fi connection for wireless delivery to a Kindle device. Library books will not be delivered via your Kindle’s 3G connection.

Learn something today with Universal ClassPeacham Library is pleased to announce the availability of over 500 classes, online, for registered patrons to take.  Users register online, participate in the classes online at their own pace, correspond with instructors online and have up to six months to complete an individual class. This program is supported by the Institute of Museum and Library Services, a federal agency, through the Library Services and Technology Act as administered by the Vermont Department of Libraries.  Stop by the library for more information.
