This week at the library — October 1, 2017

October 2, 6:00 pm, Board Meeting — Meetings are open to the public.

October 5 Fall Foliage Day

  • 9 am -4 pm – Book Sale
  • 6:30 pm – The annual showing of The Spitfire Grill, a movie filmed in Peacham

October 6, 9:15 am, Story Time – Stories, a craft, and a bit of running around.  Everyone is welcome.

October 6, 10 am – noon, Coffee Hour – Join us for a cup of coffee or tea, a sweet or two and good conversation. Suitable for all ages!

October 6, 6:00 pm, Family Movie – “Paddington” – Enjoy some cocoa,paddington popcorn and a great movie.  PJs optional.  All children must be accompanied by an adult. Rated PG.

October 7, 8:30 am, Collaborator’s Meeting – The Collaborator’s is a group who meet every other month to discuss / help organizations in Peacham.  Please join us as we help each other and the community.

Looking Ahead

October 8, 2:00pm – 4:00pm – Fiber Fest – Celebrate National Spinning and Weaving week by learning a weaving technique – simple, hand-held methods of weaving will be available to try.

October 8, 4:00pm – 6:00pm – Artist’s Reception – Cecelia Kane will be on hand to talk about the art in her new show “A Year of Forgetting.”

October 9 , 6:30 pm, Peacham Knitters and Puzzlers — Bring your knitting or other handwork for an evening of creativity and chatting. Or work on the current jigsaw puzzle.

October 11, 5:30 – 6:30 pm, Introduction to Yoga – Continuation of an introduction to basic yoga poses, breathing and meditation with instructor Kalanani Gallas.  There is a fee.

October 11, 7:00pm – Great Decisions –Worried about the state of the world? The prospect of nuclear weapons and materials falling into the wrong hands? Peacham Library will host Great Decisions in Foreign Policy, a discussion program focusing on the most critical global issues facing America today. Each topic is presented in a half-hour documentary, and then thrown open for a moderated hour-long discussion. Our first topic will be Nuclear Security.

October 13, 10 am – noon, Coffee Hour – Join us for a cup of coffee or tea, a sweet or two and good conversation. Suitable for all ages!

October 17  7:00pm – Travel Series – Locations and travels to be announced, or not, ahead of time.  Rest assured each evening will bring you to another place and time.

This week at the library — July 2, 2017

July 4, Library Closed (except for the book sale from 10 am – 3 pm)

July 4, 4:00 pm, Reading Douglass — Join WAR AND CONFLICT BOOK ERA:  CIVIL WAR/BACKGROUND: SLAVERY & ABOLITIONISMPeacham Library and Peacham Historical Association as we read, as a community, Frederick Douglass’ fiery historic speech “The Meaning of the Fourth of July for a Negro”.  Copies of the speech will be available for this participatory event at the Civil War Monument.

July 5, 12, 19, 26, 5:30 – 6:30 pm, Introduction to Yoga – Continuation of a six week introduction to basic yoga poses, breathing and meditation with instructor Kalanani Gallas.

July 7, 9:15 am, Story Time – An animal themed story time.  Everyone is welcome to join in the fun.

July 7, 10 am – noon, Coffee Hour – Join us for a cup of coffee or tea, a sweet or two and good conversation. Suitable for all ages!

July 7, 6:00 pm, Family Movie – “Beauty and the Beast” – Enjoy some cocoa, popcorn and a great movie.  PJs optional.  All children must be accompanied by an adult. Rated PG.

July 10 – 14, 9:30 – 11:00 am, Build a Better World “Camp” AllAgesCoverPhotoActivities include stories, science, art, and games.  Each day has a different theme – buildings, nature, inventions, and of course t-shirts! (Signup required by July 5; children 5 and under must come with a parent)

July 10, 6:30 pm, 207th Annual Meeting with guest speaker Stergios Lazos – Back to the Future:  Lessons learned from the One Room School House – As a prelude to this year’s Summer Series, Stergios Lazos, the Upper School Director at Lyndon Institute, will discuss how teaching methods (project based learning, proficiency, etc) used in the past are just as relevant in today’s schools.

July 14, 10 am – noon, Coffee Hour – Join us for a cup of coffee or tea, a sweet or two and good conversation. Suitable for all ages!

July 18, 1:15 pm, Tuesday Theatre – “La La Land” – Ryan Gosling and lalalandEmma Stone star in this musical that won 6 Academy Awards (but not Best Picture).  Rated PG-13.

July 19, 7:00 pm, Readers’ Delight – The Sellout by Paul Beatty is this month’s book.  Contact the library if you would like to borrow a copy of the book.

July 20, 7:00 pm, Summer Series – 200 Years of Education in Peacham One Room Wonders: The Common Elementary Schools of Peacham This year’s Summer Series will focus on 200 years of education in Peacham, from 1776 to 1976. Each evening will begin with a short historical overview followed by alumnai/ae memories and discussions. All alums of Peacham schools are invited and encouraged to attend!

July 21, 10 am – noon, Coffee Hour – Join us for a cup of coffee or tea, a sweet or two and good conversation. Suitable for all ages!

This week at the library — November 13, 2016

November 13, 3:00 pm, Death Café — Drink tea, eat cake, and talk about death.  There is no agenda, no advertising or conclusion, just the opportunity to talk about death.

November 14, 12 noon, Friends of Peacham Library – Help the Friends plan and carry out fundraising events in support of the library.

November 14, 6:30 pm, Peacham Knitters and Puzzlers – Bring your knitting or other handwork for an evening of creativity and chatting. Or work on the current jigsaw puzzle.

November 15, 1:15pm, Tuesday Theatre – “Genius” the story of Thomas Wolfe (Jude Law) and his Scribner editor, Max Perkins (Colin Firth).    Rated PG-13

November 17, 7:00 pm, Readers’ Delight – This month we will discuss Sapiens: A Brief History of Mankind by Yuval Noah Harari.  Contact the library if you would like a copy of the book.dory

November 18, 10 am – noon — Coffee Hour — Join us for a cup of coffee or tea, a sweet or two and good conversation. Suitable for all ages!

November 18, 6:00pm, Family Movie – “Finding Dory” – Enjoy some cocoa, popcorn and a great movie.  PJ’s optional. This is the first of our Family Movie Nights, which will move to 1st Fridays in December.  All children must be accompanied by an adult.

December 3, 2 – 4 pm, High Holiday Tea — Sip a cup of tea and visit with your neighbors. Sample our sweet and savory delights. Take a chance with the raffle.  All to support Friends of Peacham Library.

December 10, 10am – noon, Santa, Crafts and Latkes — A party for the whole family.  Start the morning with crafts, followed by a visit from the man in red, and end with a feast of latkes and applesauce.
