Holiday Adopt – A – Book

Would you like to support the library by adopting a book?  Consider adopting a book with the Holiday Adopt-A-Book program, with books available to adopt until the end of the year.

  •  Find a book on the list that you’d like to adopt.  All the books are on display at the library.
  •  Tell the Librarian.
  •  You pay for the book.
  •  The Librarian puts a label in the book (if you want).
  •  You get to check the book out first!

Are you concerned about protecting the planet for future generations? This educational program is hosted by end-of-life specialist and green burial educator, Michelle Acciavatti, wildlife biologist and green burial advocate Carl Anderson, and Suzanne Kelly Chair of the town of Rhinebeck Hybrid Cemetery and author of Greening Death.

March 16, 7:00pm, Readers’ Delight – Reading Lolita in Tehran by Azar Nafisi.  In April the book will be Lolita by Vladimir Nabokov. Contact the library if you would like to borrow a copy of either book.

March 18, 4:00pm, Cooking the Book — Announcing a NEW book mmagroup.  Everyone will select one (yup, just one) recipe from the same cookbook (yup, just one cookbook) to make and share. Our first cookbook will be Mma Ramotswe’s Cookbook by Stuart Brown. We will gather on Saturday, March 18 at 4pm to share our cooking and thoughts about the recipes. Stop by the library to select a recipe.   Don’t want to cook?  Talk to the librarian about how you can join the discussion.

December 3, 2 – 4 pm, High Holiday Tea — Sip a cup of tea and visit with your neighbors. Sample our sweet and savory delights. Take a chance with the raffle.  All to support Friends of Peacham Library.

December 8, TBA, Hour of Code — Take a break from the holiday preparations to join us at the library for an hour of code.  Try your hand at writing code for a game, an art piece, an app, an arduino or a Lego robot!  There are many tutorials to try, each only an hour long.  To help you out, we’ll also have people on hand with coding experience throughout the day.  Can’t make it to the library, check out the “Hour of Code” website (https://hourofcode.com/us).

July 7, 6:30pm, Herb Club Taste a bit of tea and talk about St. Johnswort, an herb that has been used for centuries to treat depression, anxiety, and nerve pain/trauma such as burns. A mini herb walk will follow.

July 11, 7:00 pm, Grand Opening of the library’s Community Center — Join us for the Grand Opening of our newly renovated ground floor space – Peacham Library’s Community Center.  This project was supported by the Vermont Arts Council and the State of Vermont, Passumpsic Savings Bank, Larabee’s Building Supply, Valley Floors, Rusty Barber, Allen Thresher, Tim McKay and members or our community.  Thank you.

July 14, 7:00 pm, Summer Series – Slow Travel with Tim McKay –Skiing Hut to Hut” – Backcountry skiing in Quebec, Maine and Colorado.

October 1, ALL DAY, Fall Foliage Day in Peacham – The library will be open at 9am and close at 7pm.

Peacham authors will sell / sign copies of their books.

The film stars Ellen Burstyn as the owner of The Spitfire Grill.

October 3, 10:00 am, Story Time – Read with a horse – There will be a special guest at story time – a miniature horse! Stories will be about horses and other animals that help people.
