January 12, 7pm, Winter Lecture Series — Geoffrey Fried, Design and the Science of Learning — How we can apply science of learning to teaching in Design and the Visual Arts, providing some examples of what it really takes to teach students to be “creative.”

January 13, 10 am – noon — Coffee Hour — Join us for a cup of coffee or tea, a sweet or two and good conversation. Suitable for all ages!

January 14, 1:00pm, Herb Club — Join the members of Herb Club for a discussion about herbs and their uses.  No experience necessary.

January 17, 1:15 pm, Tuesday Theatre – “Florence Foster Jenkins” is the story of a patron of the arts91fif5yzajl-_sy445_ who dreams of being an opera singer and the husband who supported her dream – a difficult task as what Florence hears in her head is hilariously awful to her audiences.  Starring Meryl Streep and Hugh Grant.

January 19 7:00pm, Readers’ Delight – Malgudi Days, by R.K. Narayan is this month’s book.  Contact the library if you would like to borrow a copy of the book.

January 24, 6:30 pm, Kingdom Clickers – Are you interested in photography and getting the most from your photos?  Kingdom Clickers is a local group of folks who gather to talk about just that.  Newcomers welcome!

January 26, 7:00 pm, Winter Series – Julie Lang, Save Your Pie for Dessert:  The Tricky Business of Visualizing Data — What you see is what you get, right?  Not necessarily…your eyes might deceive you.  We’ll take a look at common graphics and how they lead you to particular interpretations.  You’ll have a chance to weigh in.  What do you see?

This week at the library — November 20, 2016

 

November 24, Thanksgiving – CLOSED.

November 25, 10 am – noon — Coffee Hour — Join us for a cup of coffee or tea, a sweet or two and good conversation. Suitable for all ages!

November 28, 6:30 pm, Peacham Knitters and Puzzlers – Bring your knitting or other handwork for an evening of creativity and chatting. Or work on the current jigsaw puzzle.

December 2, 9:15am, Story Time — Stories and play for the young and young at heart.

December 2, 10 am – noon — Coffee Hour — Join us for a cup of coffee or tea, a sweet or two and good conversation. Suitable for all ages!

December 2, 6:00pm, Family Movie – “Polar Express” – Enjoy some cocoa, popcorn and a great movie.  PJ’s optional. All children must be accompanied by an adult.

December 3, 2 – 4 pm, High Holiday Tea — Sip a cup of tea and visit with your neighbors. Sample our sweet and savory delights. Take a chance with the raffle.  All to support Friends of Peacham Library.

Looking Ahead

December 5, 7:00 pm, Board Meeting – Meetings are open to the public.

December 8, TBA, Hour of Code — Take a break from the holiday preparations to join us at the library for an hour of code.  Try your hand at writing code for a game, an art piece, an app, an arduino or a Lego robot!  There are many tutorials to try, each only an hour long.  To help you out, we’ll also have people on hand with coding experience throughout the day.  Can’t make it to the library, check out the “Hour of Code” website (https://hourofcode.com/us).

December 9, 10 am – noon — Coffee Hour — Join us for a cup of coffee or tea, a sweet or two and good conversation. Suitable for all ages!

December 10, 10am – noon, Santa, Crafts and Latkes — A party for the whole family.  Start the morning with crafts, followed by a visit from the man in red, and end with a feast of latkes and applesauce.

December 10, 1:00 pm, Herb Club – Learn about the benefits of herbs in your life.  Herb Club is free and open to everyone. No experience necessary.

December 12, 6:30 pm, Peacham Knitters and Puzzlers – Bring your knitting or other handwork for an evening of creativity and chatting. Or work on the current jigsaw puzzle.

November 18, 6:00pm, Family Movie – “Finding Dory” – Enjoy some cocoa, popcorn and a great movie.  PJ’s optional. This is the first of our Family Movie Nights, which will move to 1st Fridays in December.  All children must be accompanied by an adult.
