August 1, 7:00 pm, Board Meeting – Meetings are open to the public.Magnus

August 2 – 4, 9:30 – 11:00 am, Ready, Set, Create – Time to create your masterpiece – what will it be?  Something different each day. (signup suggested; suitable for those 7+ years old or by permission)

August 2 6:30pm, Herb Club *** A mini herb walk will follow.

August 4, 7:00 pm, Summer Series – Long Distance Cycling, David & Marilyn Magnus – What’s it take to ride a bike 25 miles or more a day for a week or more?

August 5, 10 am – noon — Coffee Hour — Join us for a cup of coffee or tea, a sweet or two and good conversation. Suitable for all ages!

August  6, 9:00 am, Breakfast Movie – Bring your breakfast and enjoy a movie!  We’ll be showing “Zootopia” and will provide the orange juice.  Peacham Café, right across the street, will be open, so pick something up there and bring it over to eat while you watch the movie.  Children under 10 must come with a parent or guardian.

August  6, 10:30ish am, Story Time – Stories and activities for the young at heart, right after the movie.annette

August 10, 12 noon, Friends of Peacham Library – Help the Friends plan and carry out fundraising events in support of the library.

August 11, 7:00 pm, Summer Series – The Walk in the Long White Cloud, Jeff and Kate Bernardoni – Hike the Te Araroa Trail, an 1800 mile trek that runs the entire length of New Zealand with Sandman and Maybe Mermaid.

August 12, 10 am – noon — Coffee Hour — Join us for a cup of coffee or tea, a sweet or two and good conversation. Suitable for all ages!

August 13, 4:00 pm, Art Auction – An amazing collection of art will be up for auctionArtAuction with all proceeds to benefit the Peacham Library Renovation Fund.  Refreshments will be served.

August 16 – 18 from 9:30-11:00 am, Ready, Set, Design a Game — You’ve played snakes and ladders; you’ve played Minecraft; now it’s time to design your own game!  (signup required by August 10; suitable for those 9 and up, including adults!)

July 4, noonish 3:00 pm –  Lyders Book Sale – In the Lyders’ Barn – Going out of business sale, with all proceeds benefiting Peacham Librarychamplain - release e hanson photo trim by phyl newbeck

July 6, 7:00 pm, The Natural (and Unnatural) History of the Common Loon: from territorial takeovers and sibling rivalry to mercury laziness and satellite tracking —  Eric Hanson, the Vermont Loon Conservation Project (VLCP) Biologist, will share his work with and on loons.

July 7, 6:30pm, Herb Club Taste a bit of tea and talk about St. Johnswort, an herb that has been used for centuries to treat depression, anxiety, and nerve pain/trauma such as burns. A mini herb walk will follow.

July 8, 10 am – noon — Coffee Hour — Join us for a cup of coffee or tea, a sweet or two and good conversation. Suitable for all ages!

July 11, 7:00 pm, Grand Opening of the library’s Community Center — Join us for the Grand Opening of our newly renovated ground floor space – Peacham Library’s Community Center.  This project was supported by the Vermont Arts Council and the State of Vermont, Passumpsic Savings Bank, Larabee’s Building Supply, Valley Floors, Rusty Barber, Allen Thresher, Tim McKay and members or our community.  Thank you.

July 21, 7:00 pm, Readers’ Delight – This month’s book is The Year of Wonders by Geraldine Brooks.  Books are available at the library if you would like to join the discussion.passes

Of Interest

Did you know you can borrow a Vermont State Park Pass, a Vermont State Historical Museum Pass, an Echo Museum Pass, a Vermont Historical Society Museum Pass and an American Precision Museum Pass from the library.  Each pass goes out for a week at a time.

This week at the library — February 28, 2016

March 1, TOWN MEETING – The library will open after the conclusion of Town Meeting.

March 3, 12 noon, Lunch Talk — Help at Home with NEK Council on Aging — Heidi Baker from the NEK Council on Aging’s returns for another lunch talk on issues relevant to elders and their caregivers..  This program compliments the work SASH has begun in Peacham.  Open to all; soup and bread will be served.

March 4, 10am-noon, Coffee Hour – join us for a cup of coffee or tea, a sweet or two and good conversation. Suitable for all ages!

March 5, 10:00 am, Story Time – Stories and activities for the young at heart.

March 5, Games at the library – Families 4 – 6pm, Potluck Dinner for all 6 – 7pm, Adults 7 – 9pm — bring your favorite games or play one of ours.

February 7, 2:00 – 4:00 pm, Peacham Library Community Room Capital Campaign Kickoff Event – Join us as we celebrate the upcoming renovation of our Community Room. Rusty Barber, our design consultant, and members of the board to explain the coming changes. Refreshments suitable for a kickoff will be served.

February 8, 6:30 pm, Peacham Knitters and Puzzlers— Bring your knitting or other handwork for an evening of creativity and chatting. Or work on the current jigsaw puzzle.

February 12, 10am-noon, Coffee Hour – join us for a cup of coffee or tea, a sweet or two and good conversation. Suitable for all ages!

February 13, 8am, Collaborators – The Collaborators meet to discuss activities and events sponsored / coordinated by various groups in Peacham. Everyone is encouraged to attend to become part of folks helping the community.

February 13, 1:00pm, Herb Club — Join the members of Herb Club for a cup of rose tea and herbal hot cocoa and to explore the medicinal qualities of these plants. No experience necessary.

February 16, 1:15 pm, Tuesday Theatre – Hellen Hanff’s book 84 Charing Cross Road is brought to life in this award winning Mel Brooks film staring Anne Bancroft and Anthony Hopkins. Bancroft portrays a bibliophile who writes to a small bookseller in London. Hopkins is the man who replies, starting a twenty year romance via the mail.

February 18, 7:00pm, Readers’ Delight – American Nations by Colin Woodard is this month’s book. The March book will be The Volcano Lover by Susan Sontag. Contact the library if you would like to borrow either book.

December 7, 7:00 pm, Board Meeting — Meetings are open to the public.

December 8, 1 – 7pm, Hour of Code — Take a break from the holiday preparations to join us at the library for an hour of code.  Try your hand at writing code for a game, an art piece, an app, an arduino or a Lego robot!  There are many tutorials to try, each only an hour long.  To help you out, we’ll also have people on hand with coding experience throughout the day.  Can’t make it to the library, check out the “Hour of Code” website (https://hourofcode.com/us).

December 12, 10am – noon, Santa, Crafts and Latkes — A party for the whole family.  Start the morning with crafts, followed by a visit from the man in red, and end with a feast of latkes and applesauce.

December 12, 1:00pm, Herb Club — Join the members of Herb Club for a discussion about herbs and their uses. No experience necessary.
