Looking Ahead

December 1, 7:00pm, Asperger’s Support Group – A new support group for parents and /or guardians of children, teens, or young adults with Asperger’s syndrome or high functioning autism.

December 3, 6:30pm, Quick Mixes — Make life easy with Quick Mixes. A bit of flour, baking powder, baking soda, sugar and salt and voila, you have an easy home-made, inexpensive mix for pancakes.  Pudding, muffin, even soup and spice mixes are just as easy.  We’ll whip up a variety of ingredients so that you can later add wet ingredients for an easy menu item.
Bring containers (quart size jars work well) and $5 for your choice of three mixes and recipes for all that are made.
Sign up required by December 1 to ensure sufficient ingredients will be available.

December 12, 10am – noon, Santa, Crafts and Latkes — a party for the whole family.  Start the morning with crafts, followed by a visit from the man in red, and end with a feast of latkes and applesauce.

November 17, 1:15 pm, Tuesday Theatre – Morgan Freeman and Diane Keaton star as an elderly couple living “five flights up” in Brooklyn and thinking that perhaps they should cash in on their valuable asset – a sought after apartment. Offers fly, discussions follow, and the happily married couple discover a new lease on life. Rated PG-13.

November 19, 7:00 pm, Readers’ Delight – The group will discuss H is for Hawk by Helen Macdonald. The January book will be The Martian by Andy Weir. Contact the library if you would like to borrow a copy of either book.

November 20, 10am-noon, Coffee Hour –  join us for a cup of coffee or tea, a sweet or two and good conversation. Suitable for all ages!

November 21, International Game Day – Families 4 – 6pm, Pizza for all 6 – 7pm, Adults 7 – 9pm – Drop by the library to play your favorite games or try a new one. November 9, 6:30 pm, Peacham Knitters and Puzzlers— Bring your knitting or other handwork for an evening of creativity and chatting. Or work on the current jigsaw puzzle.

This week at the library — November 30, 2014

photo1photo2December 1 – 6 — Silent Auction — Support Friends of Peacham Library by bidding  on a gift basket! There are two baskets available for bidding — one of Peacham Farmer’s Market items — garlic, jams, meat, spices, a t-shirt and more — worth about $100. The other is a Holiday Tea basket with six cups and saucers, an antique linen table-cloth, tea and chocolate — priceless. The items are on display now and available for bidding through the holiday tea on Saturday, December 6 (2 – 4pm).

December 11, 1 – 7pm, Coding Day — Take a break from the holidays and join us at the library for an hour of code.  Try your hand at writing code for a game, an art piece, an app or an arduino!  There are many tutorials to try, each only an hour-long.  To help you out, we’ll also have people on hand with coding experience throughout the day.  Can’t make it to the library, check out the “Hour of Code” website.

December 12, 9:00 am, Story Time Stories and crafts for the young and their caregivers.

December 13, 1pm, Herb Club — Brew a yummy pot of chaga chai and make herbal products such as salves, dream pillows, face and hand cream, tea blends, bath bombs and more.  Projects are not time consuming, so there is a potential for completing 2 or 3 projects.  RSVP is required to ensure materials are available.  If you are interested in leading a project, please contact the library.2014Adopt

 

Holiday Adopt a Books are Here!  Looking for a unique present for that someone special?  Adopt a book at the library! Here’s how it works: Select a book from those available or suggest a book to the librarian.  After you pay the library for the book we’ll put a special adoption label in and check the book out to your special someone.  When the person has read the book, return it for others to enjoy – both the book and your generosity.  Books may be adopted for people, pets, entities, the library, almost anyone.

The Peacham Jigsaw Puzzles will be on display in the Gilmore Gallery through December.  Thank you to all the volunteers who helped to put together 13 different puzzles.

November 25 – December 6 — Silent Auction — Support Friends of Peacham Library by bidding on a gift basket!  The baskets and the bidding sheet are on display near the front desk and will be available at the High Holiday Tea on the 6th.  All you need to do is add your bid and your patron number to the list.  The highest bid will be announced on December 6th and the winner will be contacted.

Holiday Adopt a Books are coming.  Looking for a unique present for that someone special?  Adopt a book at the library? Here’s how it works: Select a book from those available or suggest a book to the librarian.  After you pay the library for the book we’ll put a special adoption label in and check the book out to your special someone.  When the person has read the book, return it for others to enjoy – both the book and your generosity.  Books may be adopted for people, pets, entities, the library, almost anyone.  You can, if you desire, remain anonymous.  The list will be available soon; the books will be on display in early December.  Have a specific book you’d like to adopt — contact the librarian with the title, we’ll see what we can do!
The books have been ordered!  Authors of a few of the books — Baldacci, Boynton, Diamond, Dunnett, Ford, King, Kinney, McCullough, Osborne and Perry.  Look for the books to be on display early in December.
