Tai Chi classes

Every Monday at 10 AM

Tai Chi for Fall Prevention class sponsored by the Northeast Kingdom Council on Aging developed by Dr. Paul Lam and certified by Tai Chi Vermont. There is no cost for participants over 50 and the class is not suitable for children.

We will begin with the warm-up routines and start Form 1.  There are three forms offered during this class – each form takes approximately 6 to 8 weeks to complete so the class will continue throughout the summer.  This does not mean that participants are required to show up every week- if one or two sessions are missed, they can generally catch up when they rejoin the class.

Tai Chi is a gentle form of exercise performed in a slow, intentional manner.  It is not competitive or rigorous – it is about learning a pattern of movements that help the participants to focus on how they move their bodies with the expectation that this will help decrease the risk of falling or moving in a manner that results in injury.  That said – if you have any questions about whether this practice is suitable given your physical condition or medical situation, please confer with your medical provider.  If you are not feeling well or have cold or flu symptoms, please take care of yourself and stay home. Participants should wear comfortable clothing and footwear.

There is likely to be a mix of participants with varying levels of experience as many rejoin the class for this gentle exercise and for the social connection that is an important part of the experience.  Class size grows as we approach summer, with seasonal residents returning to the area.

The class starts as soon as the participants have assembled in the Community Room downstairs in the Peacham Library when the library opens at 10 AM.   Each class will be approximately one hour or slightly more.  There will be some forms to sign by new participants.

Come and try this safe, fun and easy way to exercise, socialize and have a great start to each week. Just show up at the library on Monday mornings or contact Frank at the email or telephone numbers below.
